Erin Sinclair, Rhea STEAM
With this grant, our STEAM students were given the opportunity to grow lettuce and herbs in our hydroponics farmstand to help supply food for our school salad bar through the winter months! They were also given the opportunity to hatch out baby chicks and watch them grow.
They learned about both plant and animal life cycles through hands-on experiences and project-based learning.

PES 3rd Grade & IMS 8th Grade
Thanks to our PLUS Grant, PES 3rd grade students were able to experience working in a middle school science lab and collaborate with 8th grade science students to dissect squid!
Our 3rd grade students have learned through our high-quality reading curriculum that the sea is a complex ecosystem, full of beautiful, mysterious, and important life forms. We learned about scientific exploration of the sea by reading Mary Cerullo's Giant Squid: Searching for a Sea Monster. We also learned about Dr. Clyde Roper's scientific work to find the mysterious Giant Squid. Throughout our journey, we were surprised to learn that squids are part of the cephalopod family and have unique features such as beaks!
